New Patagonia Fishing E-Catalog

The new Patagonia Online Fishing catalog just came out today.  And low and behold I managed to sneak a few photos into it.  The fishing catalog has historically been a real challenging catalog to get work into, as the Patagonia fishing crew is very close knit.   But they’ve finally succumbed and put my photo in there.

As like the rest of the Patagonia catalogs, the online catalog looks great.  I hope this is a trend that not only Patagonia continues with but other manufactures start doing.  Website are great and all but they aren’t great for the casual viewer.  If you are specifically looking for something websites are hard to beat but if you aren’t looking for anything in particular the catalog experience is way more interesting.

Sportiva Catalog Cover

I wish I could say I’ve gotten countless cover shots in my life but that isn’t the case yet.   So I’m especially excited about this one, which is my second cover.  I also have the inside cover shot in this catalog.  Sportiva has been a great client for me in the last few years and are always a pleasure to work with.  The print quality always turns out great and I’m a fan of the simplicity they use in their graphic design.  And well of course they make the best rock shoes imaginable.

I’ve got a much larger cover shot coming out in the next few months but I’m not privy to sharing that one yet….

Acopan Tepui and 10 Pounds of Tequila

I recently teamed up with Jonathan Thesenga, Brittany Griffith and Kate Rutherford for 3 weeks of jungle adventure down in the Gran Sabana of Venezuela.  We set our sights on the overhanging east face of Acopan Tepui, a formation that has been climbed a few times but still has plenty of potential.  The trip couldn’t of been more successful!  After 9 days of effort we were able to establish a ground up, grade V free climb that went free at 5.12c.  And to my surprise we were able to do the route without any lead bolts, though we placed 5 bolts at belays to facilitate  the rappel route.  Definitely one of the greatest adventures I’ve ever been on.

Border Country Article in Current Rock and Ice

My good buddy James Lucas wrote a short piece in the newest Rock and Ice magazine about the route I put up on Middle Cathedral last year in Yosemite.  You can read the whole story online here:   http://www.rockandice.com/inthemag.php?id=67&type=news

Back from Venezuela

After almost two months of being gone Kate and I have made it back to the States.  We had a great time while gone, with ok success.  We pretty much got skunked in Patagonia this year but still managed to have a good time.  Venezuela was the real highlight of the trip.  We had a great time and even managed to do a first ascent, which you will hear more about very soon.

But for now it feels good to be back home and not living out of a duffle bag!

More pics and stories to come real soon.
